Have you ever had a season where you were absolutely on fire for God? I’m talking full‑blown spiritual fireworks – the kind where Jeremiah 20:9 suddenly makes perfect sense: “…His word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.
You couldn’t wait for the next Bible study, the next verse that lit you up, the next encouragement that carried you through the chaos of… well, Monday.
And then one morning you wake up and the fire is… a flicker. A smolder. A “did someone forget to pay the spiritual gas bill?” moment. Why does that happen? Why does the blaze turn into a barely-there glow? And more importantly — how do we get it back?
Let’s go there.
The Flame Didn’t Vanish — It Just Needs Air. When that fire dims, it’s easy to panic. But Scripture already calls this out. 2 Timothy 1:6 literally tells us to “fan into flame the gift of God.”
Translation: the fire isn’t gone — it’s just waiting for you to stop waving a wet blanket over it. And if you’ve ever felt that longing for God — that deep ache for more — you’re in good company. Psalm 63:1 says, “My soul thirsts for You; my whole being longs for You.”
That’s not just poetry. That’s the human heart remembering what it was made for.
Think about when you meet a new neighbor and decide, “Okay, this person might actually be normal.” So you talk. You learn their likes, dislikes, quirks, and the stories that shaped them. You discover the wonderful things and the heartbreaking things. You get to know who they are.
And guess what? Psalm 9:10 says, “Those who know Your name trust in You.” Knowing God builds trust — the same way knowing your neighbor builds connection (minus the awkward small talk about trash pickup schedules). And Jeremiah 29:13 seals the deal: “You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.”
Not half your heart. Not “when I get around to it.”
All. Your. Heart.
Just like any relationship, closeness doesn’t happen by accident. It happens on purpose. The Not‑So‑Shocking Secret to Rekindling the Fire
Ready for the big reveal?
Brace yourself.
It’s revolutionary.
You need to read His Word.

Every. Single. Day.
I know — shocking. Groundbreaking. Someone alert the media. But Matthew 4:4 reminds us that “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” So yes, you need Scripture just as much as you need carbs. Well actually you need scripture more than carbs.
And Psalm 119:105 says His Word is a lamp to your feet and a light to your path — which is helpful, because some days our path looks like a dark hallway full of Legos.
If I’m willing to invest time getting to know a neighbor (who may or may not return my Tupperware), then maybe — just maybe — I should rethink the time I invest in getting to know the God who actually started the fire in me.
The Flame Is Still There If you want the fire back, go back to the source. Back to His voice. Back to His truth. Back to the One who lit the match in the first place. The fire isn’t gone. It’s waiting for you to feed it again.
Helping you find peace in the garden again— because God specializes in reviving “almost‑extinguished” people.
If your flame feels faint, maybe these questions will help you find where the oxygen’s been missing.
- When was the last time I felt truly “on fire” for God — and what was feeding that flame?
- What’s been smothering my spiritual spark lately — distraction, discouragement, or just plain spiritual laziness? (No shame, just honesty. God already knows.)
- If I treated my relationship with God like I treat my closest friendships, what would change?
- What verse or truth used to light me up — and have I revisited it lately?
- Do I believe the fire is still there — even if I don’t feel it today? (Because God doesn’t revoke what He deposits. He just waits for us to breathe on it again.)
